What is a ground source heat pump?

Ground source heat pumps extract energy from the ground to provide heating and hot water for the home.

This is basically produced by a rise in pressure and temperature created by an electrically powered compressor.

If sized correctly, virtually all of the energy required for heating can be taken from the soil (which costs nothing) to provide heating and hot water, even on the coldest day of the year.

Depending on the method of installation, for every unit of electricity used, you could get around 4 units back, i.e. 1kW input to get 4kW output.
